Homeschooling with a Partner: How We Do It
Hey there, amazing families! Today, I want to talk about a crucial aspect of our homeschooling journey: partnering up! Homeschooling isn’t just a solo mission—having a supportive partner can make all the difference. So, let’s dive into how my husband and I share the homeschooling responsibilities!

My husbands main role is provider, he works so that I have the opportunity to be at home to raise and educate our boys the way that we both see fit. He works outside of our home, but he is still my partner in our homeschool. We discuss the curriculum we use and the subjects we want to be sure to include (Critical Thinking as a subject was his idea). He helps when he is home during school, when we are traveling, or when he occasionally works from home. The bulk of the day-to day homeschooling falls on me, but we make sure that there is still room for him in the homeschool journey.
1. Divide and Conquer:
First off, we’ve found that splitting up responsibilities works wonders! While I may handle the day-to-day lesson planning, my husband often takes the lead on devotionals, some read aloud time, and outdoor adventures. This way, our boys get to enjoy learning from both of us, and it keeps things fresh!
2. Communication is Key:
We make it a point to check in with each other regularly. Whether it’s a quick chat over coffee or a more in-depth discussion during date night, we share what’s working, what isn’t, and brainstorm ideas together. This helps us stay aligned and makes the homeschooling journey feel like a team effort.
3. Encourage Each Other:
Homeschooling can be challenging at times, and there will be days when we feel overwhelmed. During those moments, we remind each other of the amazing progress our boys are making. Celebrating those small wins—like finishing a tough lesson or mastering a new skill—helps keep our spirits high!
4. Flexibility is Essential:
Life happens, right? We’ve learned to be flexible with our roles. If I need a break or if my husband has a work commitment, we step in for each other without hesitation. It’s all about being a team and adapting to each other’s needs.
5. Celebrate Your Partnership:
Lastly, don’t forget to celebrate the journey together! Whether it’s a fun family outing or a quiet evening at home, make time to appreciate each other’s contributions. You’re both in this together, and that partnership is worth celebrating!
So there you have it! Homeschooling with a partner can be a rewarding experience that enriches the journey for both parents and kids. Share the load where you can, communicate, and don’t forget to have fun along the way! Happy homeschooling!
