Our Journey So Far: Why We Chose to Homeschool

Hey there, fabulous friend!  I’m so excited to kick off this journey with you and share our experiences thus far in the flexible world of homeschooling! It’s been a wild ride, full of ups, downs, and everything in between, but honestly, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

You know, before we even had kids, I always envisioned that we would take the homeschooling route. When our first son came along, though, we found ourselves in a financial situation that just didn’t allow for that dream to become a reality. With an aching heart, I watched as we sent our baby off to daycare, hoping he would thrive. Then, a couple of years later, when his little brother joined our family, we didn’t really think twice about it; they both ended up in daycare together.

As we approached preschool age, it seemed only natural to enroll our oldest in the local private school. We thought we had it all figured out—great teachers, new friends, and the whole shebang! But fast forward a few years, and I began to notice something troubling. Our oldest was outpacing his peers academically, yet the school struggled to meet his unique educational needs. Meanwhile, our youngest was keeping pace with his classmates and even exceeding some, but strict guidelines prevented him from advancing with his peers. It became painfully clear: the school just wasn’t equipped to nurture their individuality. It was like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole!

After a ton of research and countless hypothetical conversations with my husband, we finally decided to take the leap into homeschooling. Let me tell you, it was both exhilarating and terrifying, but we felt it was the right choice for our boys.

Now, here we are, halfway through our first school year, and wow—what a journey it has been! It’s a rollercoaster ride of learning and discovery, filled with spontaneous science experiments in the driveway, epic nature walks, and so much more. Every day truly feels like an adventure, and I’m eager to share it all with you!
